Education experts take to the stage at WWW2006

Speakers from RM and Cisco are among the experts who will take to the podium in Edinburgh at the 15th annual World Wide Web conference on 25th May.

The third day of the conference, Thursday 25th May, tackles the impact of the Web on education. Delegates will hear speeches on how the Internet is revolutionising people's learning and its potential to address universal dilemmas in teaching and learning.

The themes of the event will also cover web-based systems for distance learning, e-learning online communities and e-assessment systems.

RM's CEO, Tim Pearson, will explore the changing face of education and the role of web-based learning in schools, higher education, the home and the workplace. RM is the leading provider of ICT software, services and infrastructure to UK schools, colleges and universities.

Also speaking is Cisco System's director of Scotland & Ireland, Gordon Thomson. Cisco is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet and Gordon will focus on how the Web can be used to drive education forward.

Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee will open the four-day event, to be held in the UK for the first time, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

2. World Wide Web 2006 is the annual conference of the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2) and is organised by the University of Southampton's School of Electronics and Computer Science in conjunction with the British Computer Society. The four-day event, to be held in the UK for the first time, will take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre between 23 and 26 May 2006. It is expected to attract up to 1500 delegates and will bring together key players from the international community.
